About Nuro

Nuro is a robotics startup headquartered in Mountain View, California. Jiajun Zhu and Dave Ferguson, engineers of Google's self-driving vehicle project Waymo, launched the startup.

Nuro launched its robotic delivery trucks in January 2018 after receiving $92 million in investment from Greylock Partners and Gaorong Capital.

Nuro secured $940 million from SoftBank Group in February 2019, valuing the firm at $2.7 billion. Funds will be used to expand its delivery service to other locations, add new partners, increase its fleet, and grow the company. In November 2020 that they had secured $500 million in a Series C fundraising round headed by T. Rowe Price, with a post-money valuation of $5 billion.

Nuro's first product is an electric self-driving local commerce delivery van. The R1 weights 1,500 pounds (680 kg) and stands little over 6 feet (1.8 m) tall. This vehicle is designed to transport mainly cargo, with space for 12 shopping bags in the first model.
